As environmental awareness grows, so does the demand for greener construction. At JM Remodeling, we work to deliver exactly what our clients request, including using environmentally-friendly building materials and methods. The JM Remodeling team stays on top of green building trends and has incorporated them into numerous projects. Here are a few potential ways you can reduce the environmental impact of your building and remodeling project.
Choose long-lasting materials.
Maximize the lifespan of the products and materials by working with only the most durable items. While they can initially cost more, their extended life span saves money over the long run.
Select sustainably grown or harvested materials. The popularity of bamboo flooring not only comes from its beauty, but also because bamboo grows rapidly, making it an easily renewable resource. Wool carpeting and rugs, made from sheep and goat fur, also offer sustainability and aesthetic appeal.
Install energy- and water-efficient appliances and electronics.
When selecting new appliances, fixtures and water systems, look for the ENERGY STAR® and/or WaterSense® label. ENERGY STAR® products meet strict efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. WaterSense® products meet the EPA’s criteria for water efficiency.
Use building products made with recycled materials.
From basic building materials, like drywall, insulation and carpet padding, to key design elements, like tiles, carpeting and countertops, a home or business owner can select from a wide range of items made from recycled content.
Consider reclaimed building materials.
Antique fixtures, wide-plank lumber and barn beams offer a one-of-a-kind look and enhance aesthetics with their unique, old-world charm.
